The Power Shower Explained

So what are power showers? In appearance an electric power shower and a conventional electric shower are very similar, but work on very different principles. Electric power showers don’t heat there own water. The electric power shower has an integral pump that pumps hot water from the immersion heater and cold water from the header tank. The big problem with this type of shower is that it runs out of hot water very quickly, and you will need to wait for the hot water in the immersion heater to re heat before the shower is usable again. Not much use if you have a big family. You can only fit an electric power shower if you have a gravity fed hot water system in your home. You can not fit this type of shower to a combination boiler system,as they can not be connected to mains water supply pipes.
On the up side electric power showers are a really powerful shower, and if they are only used occasionally a perfectly OK. There is a fair degree of plumbing work that is required to fit this type of shower.
The other variant of the power shower is the mixer valve and pump, these are two separate items the valve and the pump unit. They operate on the exact same theory as an electric power shower, they don’t heat there own water. They are expensive to buy and expensive to install, and will run out of hot water very quickly. They look the part and are very powerful but the performance is short lived, not the best choice of shower for a large family and can only be fitted to a low pressure system.
