When you think about having a little boy, the last thing that you usually think about is interior design or wall decorations, but that doesn’t mean that having a nicely decorated room isn’t important for your little man. If you’re expecting now, and are trying to plan a room for your baby boy, it’s important to note that there are two paths that you can take. You can plan an age appropriate room that will probably have to be updated by the time he enters first grade, or you can try to plan a blank palette kind of room that you’ll be able to modify as needed in the future. No matter which type of room you choose, wall art is a great way to establish your son’s room in a quality yet easily modified way.
When you are choosing wall art for a boy’s room, the first thing that you want to do is to assess the amount of wall space you have available to you, and where in the room this space is available. It may be that your son’s room is very large, or you don’t have very much furniture in it at this point, so there is a lot of empty wall space to work with. However, it may be that you already have some large furniture or wall coverings in place, and the space for adding things is rather limited.
Once you’ve decided whether you are looking for small pieces or large pieces, many pieces or just one piece of wall art, you can start to think more in depth about how you want the art to affect the overall aesthetic of the room. Do you want to give your son things that will be exciting to look at, like colorful characters or scenes from different sports, or do you want to make the room more comfortable and relaxing, with pictures of different animals or outdoor scenes?
If you’re interested in getting the most for your dollar, you might want to choose more neutral types of wall art that will be acceptable for your son to have on his wall throughout many different ages and interests. These are typically the pieces of art that feature shapes and colors more prominently than items, like flowers or baby animals. If your son is old enough to give his opinion don’t be afraid to ask him which sort of things he would like to look at in his room.
